The 16th season of the IPL is just around the corner, and all the teams are gearing up to win the coveted trophy. The 10 teams will play over 70 matches in the next two months to make it to the top four positions on the points table. Most of the teams have already started training camps, and practises are in full force. However, well before the start of the season, teams have been plagued by players getting injured and getting ruled out of playing at the tournament.
Missing key players from their squads is a big setback for the teams. Delhi Capitals lost three of their key players to injuries, starting with their captain, Rishabh Pant, who sustained severe injuries in a car accident just after the IPL auctions. Sarfaraz Khan will also be missing the action due to injuries recently sustained, and it is doubtful that Anrich Nortje will play.
Mumbai Indians have also been affected, as two of their key players will be unable to play. Both Jasprit Bumrah, one of the fastest bowlers in the world, and pacer Jhye Richardson have undergone surgeries recently and will not recover in time for the series.
Chennai Super Kings have lost two of their main players, as both Ben Stokes and Kyle Jamieson are out with injuries. Ben Stokes is down with a knee injury and Kyle Jamieson with a back stress fracture.
It’s unfortunate for these players and their respective teams, but it also opens up opportunities for other players to step up and make their mark in the tournament.
