IPL 2023: Who are the contenders for the Orange Cap?

The Indian Premier League (IPL) Orange Cap is an award presented to the leading run-scorer in the tournament. The player who scores the most runs throughout the IPL season wears the Orange Cap while fielding, and at the end of the tournament, the player with the most runs is awarded the Orange Cap.

The Top 5 players who can win the Orange Cap IPL 2023

  1. Virat Kohli 

Virat Kohli has won the Orange Cap in the Indian Premier League (IPL) once. He won the Orange Cap in the IPL 2016 season, where he scored a record-breaking 973 runs in 16 matches at an average of 81.08 and a strike rate of 152.03. He also scored four centuries and seven half-centuries in that season.

Kohli has been a consistent performer in the IPL but has not been able to win the Orange Cap again. Nonetheless, he remains one of the best batsmen in the world and a key player for RCB. In 15 seasons of IPL, he has scored 6,624 runs at an average of 36.19 making him the all-time leading run scorer in the IPL.

He scored one century and five half-centuries in the tournament and was the leading run-scorer of the season. His highest score in the season was 132* against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

David Warner has won the Orange Cap in the Indian Premier League three times. He won it for the first time in 2015, while representing Sunrisers Hyderabad, and then won it again in 2017 and 2019.

In the IPL 2015 season, David Warner scored 562 runs in 14 matches at an average of 43.23 and a strike rate of 156.54. He scored one century and four half-centuries in the tournament and was the leading run-scorer of the season. His highest score in the season was 91* against Kolkata Knight Riders.

In the IPL 2017 season, David Warner scored 641 runs in 14 matches at an average of 58.27 and a strike rate of 141.81. He scored four half-centuries in the tournament and was the leading run-scorer of the season. His highest score in the season was 126 against Kolkata Knight Riders.

In the IPL 2019 season, David Warner scored 692 runs in 12 matches at an average of 69.20 and a strike rate of 143.86. He scored eight half-centuries in the tournament and was the leading run-scorer of the season. His highest score in the season was 100* against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is an Indian cricketer who plays for the Chennai Super Kings.

Gaikwad made his IPL debut in 2020 and had a slow start to the tournament, scoring just 5 runs in his first three innings. However, he soon found form and scored three consecutive half-centuries toward the end of the tournament, finishing with a total of 204 runs in six innings.

He was awarded the Orange Cap in IPL 2021 for scoring 635 runs in 16 matches.
