The Purple Cap is an award presented to the leading wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League cricket tournament.
The Purple Cap was introduced in the IPL in 2008 and has been awarded in every season since then. At the end of each match, the Purple Cap is given to the leading wicket-taker of the tournament, and it is worn by the player until another player takes more wickets and earns the cap. The bowler who takes the most wickets at the end of the tournament is presented with the actual Purple Cap as a trophy.
Some of the notable winners of the Purple Cap include Lasith Malinga, Dwayne Bravo, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Kagiso Rabada. In the 2021 season, Harshal Patel of Royal Challengers Bangalore won the Purple Cap, taking 32 wickets in 15 matches.
